Valentine's Linzer Cookies

Linzer cookies are always special, but in a heart shape, they are perfect for Valentine’s Day! Buttery, delicate, and just the right amount of sweet, these cookies melt in your mouth. I fill them with raspberry jam because I love the little bit of tartness, it balances the cookie so nicely. The dough is soft and easy to work with, just be careful not to roll it too thin! After baking, a dusting of powdered sugar makes them look beautiful. They are not difficult to make, but they feel fancy, like something from a pastry shop. A perfect homemade gift for someone you love!

Ingredients

Linzer Cookies

  • 200g butter
  • 150g powdered sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 400g flour
  • * raspberry jam

Preparation Steps

Hey there, chef! Let's make some magic with this recipe. For the best results, try to stick to the steps and ingredients list like glue. Think of it like a science experiment – weird substitutions might make things go *boom* (and not in the tasty way). 😉

Linzer Cookies

  1. Beat the slightly softened butter together with sugar and eggs. No need to whip it until fluffy, just mix until the ingredients are well combined.

  2. Add the flour and form a dough. Transfer it to a work surface and knead quickly by hand until smooth and elastic. Work fast to keep the dough from getting too warm. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for several hours

  3. Roll out the dough. You can use plastic wrap or parchment paper to help, place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it out. This way, it won’t stick or tear. You can use any size cookie cutter. I used a heart-shaped cutter, about 2.2 inches in size.

  4. Bake at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes. Every oven bakes differently, and the baking time also depends on how thick the hearts are. Once the cookies have cooled, spread them with jam, any kind you like, but a slightly tart fruit works best. I used red currant jam. Sandwich the cookies together and dust with powdered sugar.
